About the Week of April 13th and looking ahead...

M-Step: As you know, the M-Step test was all week. This took up most of our regular morning academic schedule. The kids had to spend a lot of time working hard, sitting, and staying quiet- I appreciate their efforts and positive attitudes at school! Mrs. Custer and I treated them to ice cream sandwiches and a longer Friday Fun playing kickball. I have a couple pictures below.

HOMEWORK:

1) Math: Page 84 in the workbook Volume 1- ALL.
2) Reading: * Some students must finish book club section and the corresponding paper and students must have biography book completed Monday.

MATH:
We did some review work for order of operations, finding a rule, and evaluating for a given variable.

 READING:

We are still working through book club. We will be able to get into the full swing of this again on Monday. Students are in groups reading, discussing and working on comprehension strategies. I sit in with groups each day, listening in and joining the discussion. They will choose a project to complete and have an assessment at the end of their book. This book club may require homework on occasion if students are unable to finish in class.

WRITING:
Monday students will begin taking notes and researching other sources for their biography report. This will take a couple weeks. We are going to do a poetry unit as well as write a classroom newspaper after this project.

Science:
We started our Systems Unit and our frogs and hermit crabs have arrived. Students did some observing and we discussed care and handling. We began our discussion about classification.

Spelling  Students took Spelling Test 25 on Friday.  The skill was spelling the sound /j/ as in jar.
