MATH - Mrs. Custer
The fifth graders have been
working very hard since Christmas on story problems that involve multiplication
and division of fractions. Our test will be next week. Their
homework this weekend is worksheet 3-12 (#13 - 21).
Students also took the Delta math test and you will see these results at conferences.
BLOWERS WRITING:
This week we began a short story that includes a snowman. (Standard W.5.3 -writing a narrative.) Students are working to incorporate at least 5 of the sentence types that we practiced, some sound words, and most are writing from a snowman's point of view.

READING: with Mrs. Blowers
We continued with book club this week. Students are working in groups to read and discuss their books. I come sit in with groups daily. We are focusing on vocabulary building, various comprehension strategies, and character development. We took the SRI test- you will see the results at conferences. Dibels testing is next week.
Social Studies with Mrs. Custer
We started a new unit this week on the first of the early English
colonies in America.
Science with Mrs. Blowers
We completed lessons for first section of this unit which primarily focuses on why we have seasons and temperature differences. It is because the Earth is tilted on its axis and the amount of direct sunlight a given area receives as it revolves around the Earth. The test will be next Friday.
Spelling:
The
Lesson 13 test was Friday. The new skill for lesson 14 is the spelling of words that have the "ow/ow" sound/spelling. Students know they should study the
activities we do in class to study for the test as well as practice the
words on the list in the spelling tab.
