Log Cabins/Posters
These are due Wednesday, December 15th.

ELOQUENCE DAY!
Friday the 17th is Eloquence Day. Your child should wear nice attire:
Girls should wear skirts or dresses if possible or nice pants and blouse/sweater.
Boys should wear pants (Nice jeans only if they don't own a pair of dress pants).
A nice shirt and or sweater would be good. (No t-shirts, please.)

We will be teaching dinner etiquette and manners prior to this and watching for these behaviors.

Christmas Gift Giving

Many students have been taking advantage of buying a ticket for charity as gifts for friends and teachers. I bought one for each student in my class. Tickets will be for sale at morning recess between on Monday and Tuesday. We will draw a  someone's name Tuesday and this person will choose the charity to be the recipient of the money!

WHAT WE'RE LEARNING:

SPELLING/GRAMMAR:
Our test over lesson 10 and adding prefixes will be Monday. Don't forget about Spelling City!
We have been focusing on subjects and predicates in grammar this week.

MATH:
The Chapter 4 spelling test will be Monday. (Some students chose to take the test on Friday). We also are reviewing adding, subtracting, and multiplying decimals. We will begin Chapter 5 covering graphing this week.

WRITING:
We will had a couple mini-lessons focusing on word choice and persuasive writing. Students are writing a persuasive letter to Santa Clause that will persuade him to bring them what they want for Christmas. They can tell me after break if it works! :)

READING:
We continue to work in our genre unit study novel, Sign of the Beaver. It relates to our social studies unit covering Native Americans/early American History. We have been completing comprehension activities in a packet students have as well as discussing the book in depth to get them thinking about their reading. We are working on writing responses in thorough, complete sentences as well as referencing the person they are speaking of.

SCIENCE:
This week we have been studying how to calculate speed by doing various activities where we measure distance using time in order to get the speed. Students are using the formula
SPEED = DISTANCE /TIME. We have covered a lot of vocabulary and did some review using a crossword. Students will keep papers at school for science as they will need them for study guides and review.
